Candle Consecration

This is the consecration ritual I use on all candles that will be used in ritual or as offerings. It is derived from the Key of Solomon, Chapter XII: OF THE LIGHT, AND OF THE FIRE which specifies the preparation and blessing of the candle for use in the lantern.

The blessing should be done in the day and hour of Mercury when the Moon is waxing.

Recite the following psalms over the candles:

Psalm 150
Psalm 103
Psalm 117

Then recite the following over the candles:

O Lord God, who governest all things by thine almighty power, give unto me, a poor sinner, understanding and knowledge to do only that which is agreeable unto thee; grant unto me to fear, adore, love, praise, and give thanks unto thee with true and sincere faith and perfect charity. Grant, O Lord, before I die, and descend into the realms beneath, and before the fiery flame shall devour me, that thy grace may not leave me, O Lord of my soul. Amen.

I exorcise thee, O creature of wax, by him who alone hath created all things by his Word, and by the virtue of him who is pure truth, that thou cast out from thee every phantasm, perversion, and deceit of the enemy, and may the virtue and power of God enter into thee, so that thou mayest give us light, and chase far from us all fear or terror.

Then sprinkle them with the blessed water and fumigate them with incense.

    Hi quaero,

What incense is appropriate for fumigating the candle? Is it Mercurial?

Also, the burin’s incense is Venusian, since it is made during the day of Venus and Venus hour?

I plan to follow your example of a consecrated Candle as an offering to the Genius. But I’m kinda lost as what the Key of Solomon says about fumigate with incense on the instruments of the art; specifically what incense is it for which instrument?

And oh is it necessary that the candles should be made during Mercury hour and day, with the wicks made by a young girl? I would just go to the supermarket and buy what I can find.

I typically use Frankincense as a general-purpose incense, or alternately Kyphi. I also tend to use incense as little as possible since I’m asthmatic. My consecrations are typically blessing with holy water followed invocations consecrating it to the appropriate spirit or usage.

As for which incense to use for the daimon candle, your best bet would be to do an invocation of the daimon followed by a divination asking if what you want to use is appropriate.

For candles I typically use store-bought, and my main lamp is an oil lamp as opposed to a lantern/candle arrangement. Oil burned in the lamp is blessed at mercury day mercury hour. If you’re making your own candles I’d do it at the appropriate time. If you can find hand-woven wicks etc etc excellent, but if not blessed wicks from a craft shop would be fine IMHO.

My apologies for the delayed response, with the rush and family stuff for the holidays followed by being down with a stomach flu I’ve been a bit behind.
